What Can You Do If the Flu Hits Your Home?
You have probably been hearing that horrible three letter word around town here lately—flu. It is certainly making its rounds in and around Warrington.
That’s why our team at AFC Urgent Care Warrington wants to share some information about the flu and what to do if you think you have it.
How Long Will Does the Flu Last?
When you start experiencing the symptoms of the flu, it can seem as though the virus is going to last forever. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that the flu virus usually lasts from three to seven days in most cases.
Some symptoms, like fatigue, may linger for a bit longer as your body recovers.
Symptoms of the Flu
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny
- Stuffy nose
- Muscle
- Body aches

Can You Prevent the Flu?
Your best method of prevention is the annual flu shot. While the CDC recommends being vaccinated each year by the end of October, if you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet this year, it isn’t too late.
In addition to the flu shot, you want to make sure you are washing your hands on a regular basis, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and avoiding contact with those who are sick.
Treatment for the Flu
- Take an antiviral medication, if prescribed.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Get lots of bed rest.
- Try throat lozenges.
- Use decongestant and cough medicine to help ease symptoms.
